Would you like to sing with the ACS-Children's Chorus?

Children's Chorus Artistic Director, Kevin Carr announces auditions for the 2008-2009 season of the Alexandria Choral Society Children's Chorus.

Tuesday, September 9th from 6pm-9pm at Good News Baptist Church, located at 5940 Telegraph Road Alexandria, VA 22310

Thursday, September 11th from 4pm to 8pm at Glebe Elementary School, located at 1770 North Glebe Road Arlington, VA 22207

All dates by appointment For details and/or to schedule an audition appointment, please call 703-548-4734 or Kevin@AlexChoralSociety.org. No prepared material is necessary, just a love to sing! Sing whatever you wish; you will be singing alone, and not in front of anyone but Mr. Carr.

The Children's Chorus is open to all children with unchanged voices from the metropolitan Washington area in grades 3 through 12. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm and 7:30-8:30 pm depending on tier placement. Limited scholarships are available.

2008 Designer Trunk Show
The Alexandria Choral Society presents the 2008 Spring Designer Trunk Show, on Sunday, May 4, 2008 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm, at the Belle Haven Country Club, located at 6023 Fort Hunt Road, Alexandria, VA 22307. The Designer Trunk Show will feature a fashion show, vendors selling unique and fashionable merchandise, and a silent auction! Tickets are $25 each or two for $40. The Fashion Show will begin at 2pm and will feature Women's Clothing, sponsored by Kiskadee, and Children's Clothing, sponsored by Robcyns. Our annual Silent Auction will run from 1pm - 3:30pm, where you will have the opportunity to bid on a wide variety of tickets, jewelry, hotel stays, and packages!

Featuring the Alexandria Choral Society Children's Chorus Dolces

Jane Franklin Dance brings together premier dance, live music, and artistic and community collaboration in Sound Walk – Environment/Place/Space. From duet marimbas to a string quartet and from an original music composition that incorporates the sounds of neighborhood workshops to a chorus of youth voices, each dance utilizes the power of collaboration to combine artistic comment about the ever changing community with the people who inhabit it.

The concert features premier performances by Jane Franklin Dance with music by Splash, composer Gina Biver's new music ensemble, Nova String Quartet sponsored by American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras, and Alexandria Choral Society Children's Chorus. Guest Artist for Jane Franklin Dance is Florian Roullier.

Junior Division Winner

I had a dream of winter

John Adams Elementary School, Alexandria, VA

Danielle Delaney is a fifth grade student at John Adams Elementary School. She wrote the song lyrics in her Talented and Gifted language arts class taught by Susan Waren and composed the melody during music class taught by Wesley McCune. Danielle is a member of the school’s well-known and highly regarded Orff Ensemble, which has performed for the Alexandria City Council and at the Kennedy Center. In addition to her musical prowess, Danielle is a competitive gymnast.

“Miraculous Wonder”

Peter Minnig is a senior at the Maret School in Washington, DC, where he studies music theory and composition with James Erwin. Active as a singer for many years, Peter served in the Choir of Men and Boys at Washington National Cathedral and at St. Paul’s–K Street, where he was Head Chorister; he is a founding member of Cathedral Voices, the first mixed adult ensemble in residence at Washington Cathedral. Peter’s wide-ranging academic interests include the sciences, mathematics, and classical languages. Outside of school and musical interests, Peter is an accomplished kart racer.
